Top 5 Foods to always have at home
Don’t even think to go through the checkout without stocking loads of these foods. This is my top 5 foods to always have at home. I’ll include all the nutritional values per 100 grams as well.
#5 – Cottage Cheese.
Good protein source. Can often be found in different flavours as well. You can mix it with a lot of food. Very nice in salads, on sandwiches or even use as a sauce.
#4 – Oatmeal.
Slowly digested carbohydrates and a decent portion of protein as well. There is so much you could do with oats. It’s super easy to make, just put 40 grams in a bowl and 2 dl of water/milk and put it in your microwave oven for 2-3 minutes and VOILA! A normal size portion is about 140 calories.
#2 – Chicken without skin.
There is no gym rat out there who hasn’t been crying about overeating on chicken. Meat might be the gift from god for us fellow athletes. Chicken can be bought in many different forms, whole, pre-cut or even as fillet.
#1 – THE ULTIMATE DIET SAVER!
Your favourite “healthy” meal, which actually could work as your “cheat” meal. It’s so important to have a meal like this, can’t stress it enough. When you are on a long term diet you will eventually lose motivation along the road. It happens to everyone, even the best. I often instruct my clients to have a cheat meal twice a month or even once a week depending on their goals and time frame. It helps them a lot to see a short sighted goal to focus on, survive 1-2 weeks to finally get a reward in form of food. Try not to GO NUTS but for example it’s possible to eat pizza but you have to make it on your own! Bake the bread yourself, use fresh vegetables, low fat cheese and make it smaller than you’re used to. Here you have my top 5 foods to always have at home, hope you liked it!
